SJS Investment Services Recognized In CNBC's 2023 FA 100 List

SJS Investment Services has been recognized in CNBC’s 2023 FA 100 list, an annual ranking of registered investment advisory (RIA) firms within the United States.

SJS Investment Services has been recognized in CNBC’s 2023 FA 100 list, an annual ranking of registered investment advisory (RIA) firms within the United States.[1]

“This recognition is affirming to our Team, and we attribute this to the faith, commitment, and loyalty that our clients have demonstrated to SJS over the last 28 years,” says SJS Founder & CEO Scott J. Savage.

CNBC enlisted data provider AccuPoint Solutions to assist with the ranking of registered investment advisors for the 2023 FA 100 list. The methodology consisted of first analyzing a variety of core data points from AccuPoint Solutions’ proprietary database of registered investment advisors. This analysis started with an initial list of 40,646 RIA firms from the Securities and Exchange Commission regulatory database. Through a process by CNBC and AccuPoint Solutions, the list was eventually cut to 812 RIAs with those firms meeting CNBC’s proprietary criteria. CNBC staff sent an email survey to all those firms that met the initial criteria to gather more details. The CNBC team verified that data with the SEC regulatory database. CNBC and AccuPoint also considered additional information including total assets under management (AUM), years in business, accounts under management, regulatory / compliance record, number of certified financial planners, number of employees, number of investment advisors registered with the firm, the ratio of investment advisors to total number of employees, percentage of discretionary assets under management, and number of states where the RIA is registered. AccuPoint once again applied CNBC’s proprietary weighted categories to further refine and rank the firms, ultimately creating the list of the top 100 firms. There is no fee to apply or to secure placement within the ranking. Additionally, an advisor’s appearance on this ranking does not constitute an individual endorsement by CNBC of any firm. Further methodology information can be found on the CNBC website.[1][2]

Word Of The Year? Gratitude!

The SJS word of the year for 2023 is GRATITUDE! Gratitude for our health, families, friends, faith, country, the SJS Team, and most importantly You, our loyal client who trusts us to do what’s in your best interest day-in and day-out.

By Founder & CEO Scott J. Savage.

The SJS word of the year for 2023 is GRATITUDE! Your Team at SJS arrived at the word of the year during an early January huddle, which is a weekly check-in with all of our Team Members that has been a tradition for most of the 27-year history of SJS.

Why Gratitude? As we collectively process the trauma of the past three years triggered by a global pandemic, economic lockdowns, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the death of George Floyd, double-digit inflation, significantly higher interest rates, and the resulting financial market volatility, it seems to us that getting back to basics of being grateful is a prescription that will enable us to move forward in an optimistic way.

Gratitude for our health, families, friends, faith, country, the SJS Team, and most importantly You, our loyal client who trusts us to do what’s in your best interest day-in and day-out. We are so grateful to work with you, your family, and your organization to achieve our purpose: “Empowering You to Build a Better Life.” We do this by providing major money center management experience while maintaining our small-town values and putting you first, all the time, every time.

These values include:

  • Accountability – We own the results, and are responsible to help you achieve your goals.

  • Client-Centric – We seek to understand and put you at the center of all we do.

  • Collaborative – We win as One.

  • Forward-Thinking – We are attentive, adaptive, and agile. Change is everywhere.

  • Giving – We give back to make our world a little better than we found it.

  • Integrity – Without honesty and high standards, we have nothing.

  • Servant Leadership – We serve you with confidence and humility, always striving to be better.

Finally, none of this works without old-fashioned hard work. We won’t go home until the day’s tasks are done. Period!

Reflecting on the privilege to work with you, learn from you, and we hope at times to inspire you leaves us feeling grateful.

Thank you,

SJS

SHOOK Research received 36,535 nominations based on thresholds, invited 21,116 firms to complete their online survey, performed 15,342 telephone interviews, conducted 3,250 in-person interviews at advisors’ location, and conducted 1,357 virtual interviews. Additional information about the list methodology can be found here.[2]

In April 2022, SJS Investment Services responded to an online survey provided by SHOOK Research, providing quantitative and qualitative information including AUM size, AUM growth, typical client relationship size, and minimum account size for new business. Additionally, SJS Investment Services participated in a telephone interview with SHOOK Research in June 2022. Neither SJS Investment Services nor any of its employees provided any payment to Forbes or SHOOK Research in exchange for rankings.

SJS Investment Services Recognized In CNBC's 2021 FA 100 Ranking

SJS Investment Services has been recognized in CNBC’s 2021 FA 100 Ranking, an annual ranking of registered investment advisory (RIA) firms within the United States.

SJS Investment Services has been recognized in CNBC’s 2021 FA 100 Ranking, an annual ranking of registered investment advisory (RIA) firms within the United States.[1]

“This recognition by CNBC is humbling, and simply reflective of the faith, commitment, and loyalty our clients have demonstrated in SJS over the last 26 years,” says SJS Founder & CEO Scott Savage.

CNBC enlisted data provider AccuPoint Solutions to assist with the ranking of registered investment advisors for the 2021 FA 100 list. The methodology consisted of first analyzing a variety of core data points from AccuPoint Solutions’ database of registered investment advisors. This analysis started with an initial list of 38,302 RIA firms. Through a process, the list was eventually cut to 749 RIAs, with those firms meeting CNBC’s proprietary criteria. (All the data collected from the RIAs was information culled from the firm’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.) CNBC staff sent an email survey to all those firms that met the initial criteria to gather more details, which SJS Investment Services responded to. AccuPoint again applied CNBC’s proprietary weighted categories to further refine and rank the firms, ultimately creating the list of the top 100. The primary data points used in the analysis were reviewed, either as a minimum baseline or within a range, eliminating those firms that did not meet CNBC’s requirements. Once the initial list was compiled, weightings were also applied accordingly. These data points included the advisor’s compliance record, number of years in the business, number of employees, number of investment advisors registered with the firm, the ratio of investment advisors to total number of employees, total assets under management, percentage of discretionary assets under management, total accounts under management, number of states where the RIA is registered, and country of domicile. There is no fee to apply or to secure placement within the ranking.[1][2]

25 Years And Just Getting Started

The reason we exist is YOU, and we were pleased to send each of our clients an American flag as a symbol of our gratitude and our pride in living in the greatest country in the world.

By SJS Founder & CEO Scott Savage.

As the sun sets on an indescribable 2020, we collectively hold our breaths for a successful and rapid rollout of vaccines to combat COVID-19. To sum up, I am awestruck by many of the events of the past year. Public and private leaders leaned into the coronavirus crisis, quickly pivoting to deal with the public health, economic, employment, and financial market disruption that began in February. Legislation, leadership, innovation, agility, emotions, divisiveness, and human fragility were on full display over the past 10 months—a short time that feels like a lifetime. And oh, by the way, SJS celebrated 25 years of business!

The reason we exist is YOU, and we were pleased to send each of our clients an American flag as a symbol of our gratitude and our pride in living in the greatest country in the world.

Your reaction was humbling: notes, calls, texts, emails, and kind words in person made us feel that we “hit the mark” as a way to celebrate 25 years of serving you, in the midst of a pandemic. I have compiled a few themes from your responses that I feel compelled to share:

Practical reactions to receiving the flag

Many of you shared the tired condition of the flag you already owned or the fact that you had never owned a flag and had long intended to buy one. The pictures, stories, and patriotic sentiment jumped out at me, tugging at my deep love for our country. Thank you.

Appreciation for our team at SJS

Your appreciation for the team at SJS was central to many of your kind words. I hear such sentiment often, and never get tired of hearing it repeated. I agree and often am heard saying that I will stack up our team against any team, anywhere, anytime!

Letting us know how long you have been a client

Whether it is a relatively new relationship, or one that goes back decades or even to our beginning in 1995, many of you shared the duration of our relationship and how that has made you feel. I was happy to know that many of you are keeping track!

Personal stories

Thank you for sharing personal stories and SJS moments that you remember and carry in your heart. Your words make me feel that the vision, effort, dedication, hard work, innovation, and bumps along the road that weave the fabric of SJS have been a worthy endeavor thus far—an SJS-spangled banner to call our own.

And we are just getting started! I look to the next 25 years with grounded optimism. There is much to worry about and fear, but there is also much to anticipate and hope for. Your team at SJS is committed to continuing to give you our best each and every day. We are here for you and for your family and friends if you believe we can be of help. As a dear friend reminds me often, onward and upward! Forever may she wave!

SJS 25th Anniversary: In Gratitude To You

Thank you for all your collaboration, confidence, and trust in us over the past 25 years. Please know the depth of my gratitude is impossible to put into words.

Seems like yesterday, but 34 years ago, I started working in the stock brokerage business. However, I quickly learned that the work expected of me was often at odds with the best interests of my clients, and I didn’t like that very much.

So, 25 years ago, I started SJS Investment Services with the goal of providing people and organizations with a major money center investment experience that embraced a small-town value system that puts our clients first, all the time, every time, right here in Northwest Ohio.

Twenty-five years later, we still love helping people and organizations go where they want to go and leave the legacy they want to leave. The team we have assembled is working hard every day to make good on our promises, and we happily continue to add new clients, often at the introduction from you, our loyal clients!

We feel this is a good time to say: thank you for all your collaboration, confidence, and trust in us over the past 25 years. Please know the depth of my gratitude is impossible to put into words.

With gratitude,

Scott Savage, SJS Founder & CEO
